She was one of three sisters from a London family; Dorothea, who owned the house in St. Johns Wood where Ophelia grew up, also had a large property on the outskirts of Windermere, hence the Lake District connection. There is a reference to Winifred in Heaton Coopers autobiography Mountain Painter in which he notes that she was "a painter of animals,
