Red flag symptoms that require urgent medical assessment include: Blood in the stool or black, tarry stools Severe or persistent abdominal pain (especially if radiating to the back, which may indicate pancreatitis) Signs of dehydration (excessive thirst, dark urine, dizziness, confusion, passing little urine) Fever accompanying diarrhoea Persistent vomiting preventing adequate fluid intake Rapid or unintended weight loss beyond the expected therapeutic effect Symptoms of hypoglycaemia (low blood sugar) that are difficult to manage Abdominal pain with fever or yellowing of the skin/eyes (possible gallbladder disease) Patients should also seek medical advice if they are unable to maintain adequate nutrition or hydration due to gastrointestinal symptoms, or if they need to take other medications but cannot tolerate them due to digestive upset
