Patients at highest risk include those in the dose-escalation phase, experiencing active gastrointestinal symptoms (nausea, vomiting, bloating), those with known gastroparesis, or those taking concurrent medications that further delay gastric emptying (such as opioids)
This decrease likely parallels the decline in growth hormone receptor levels with age, as the high-affinity GH-BP is identical to the extramembranous portion of the GH receptor
Symptomatic awareness of hypoglycemia may be less pronounced in patients with longstanding diabetes, in patients with diabetic nerve disease, in patients using medications that block the sympathetic nervous system (e.g., beta-blockers) [see Drug Interactions (7.1)], or in patients who experience recurrent hypoglycemia
