Victorian DOWERY chest. French G plan 102cm wide and 45cm deepDOWERY CHESTS were very popular all over Europe and Asia for many years. I believe this one is possibly Germa. Mid 18th century with original painted panels the story goes that the brides father built and painted the long box and relatives and friends would fill it with things to give the young couple a good start in marriage. This one is quite large indicating a wealthy family. The box and paying is in very good condition.
